About Me

Oh hello! Nice to meet you. I am Nate Watkins and I am happy you are here. Let me set you up and get you acquainted to the space.

First, a little about me. I currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona. During the day, I work as a product manager where I have fun working with designers and developers to solve customer problems. At night though, I like to create things. Art is something that has always been a passion of mine since I was a kid. On my report cards in grade school, my teachers would write fun things like "wish he didn't draw so much during class." That was always a fun conversation when sitting at the dinner table staring at last night's meat loaf while explaining why I got a C- in math.

These days, I still sketch, and draw and that is where everything begins. If you were to ask me 'what' kind of art I make, I would classify it as multi-media and multi-dimensional. I like the tactile feeling of it. I often have to sketch a version multiple times before I start and even then, I often find myself refining it multiple times before I like the 'feel' of it. 

In terms of art style, to be honest, I don't know. Even though I took art classes in college, that wasn't what my focus was in. I just like to fumble through and figure things out as I go. I do draw inspiration from many different things. For example, my favorite painting is Nighthawks by Hopper. I could draw inspiration from a show I am watching, a mural on a building, wandering around the Phoenix Art Museum. What I do know is I enjoy exploring bold and bright color and the characters I am making. Their expressions don't often match the color of the piece. Like we all put on this brave and bright face for the world but each of us might be struggling a little on the inside. The multiple layers representing the multiple layers we each have.
